What is the Good Morning
Telephone Friends Service?
The Good Morning Telephone Friends Service
offers a lifeline to vulnerable, older or frail people
who live alone. It operates seven days a week and it can
be used for as long as it is required.
The Telephone Friend makes a brief call - a maximum of
five minutes - at an agreed time to make sure that the
person they are calling is all right. The service is
FREE.
Id like a Telephone Friend, what do
I do?
Ring the Mayfair Community Centre and explain that
you would like a Telephone Friend to ring you every
morning.
You will be
asked for your name and telephone number which will
be passed on to the Telephone Friends co-ordinator, who
will contact you to arrange a suitable day/time to come
and meet you.
On meeting you, the coordinator will ask what time
you would like to be called. You will also be asked about
your interests so that you can be matched with a suitable
volunteer Telephone Friend.
How
long can I have a Telephone Friend ?
As
long as you need a regular morning call.
Will
it cost me anything?
No, the service is Free! Remember, your
Friend calls you
How
long will the call last?
It will only be a short 'Good Morning' call to make sure
youre alright and therefore should only last a few
minutes.
How
can I become a Telephone Friend?
The 3 simple steps involved are
Call Mayfair and explain that you
would like to become a Telephone Friend.
You will be asked for your name and
address and subsequently you will be sent a
volunteer application form to complete.
Next, the Mayfair Telephone Friends
co-ordinator will arrange to meet you in
order to tell you more about the service
Calls you make as a Telephone Friend
will each last for a maximum of five minutes.
For each call you make you will be paid 20p to
cover your telephone costs.
