'Walking for Health'

What is the Walking for Health Scheme ?

The ‘Walking for Health Scheme’ aims to improve the health and fitness of more than a million people, especially those who do little exercise, by encouraging them to walk regularly.

Who is it for?

It’s for you if you don't walk much at the moment. Do any of these excuses sound familiar?

  • “I'll get lost”

  • “Walking is boring”

  • “What's the point

  • “I don't have time”

  • “I don't like walking on my own”

Why is walking so good for you?

  • It's free and easy

  • No special equipment is needed

  • You can start slowly

  • It improves your confidence and energy

  • It has great health benefits

I don't want to walk alone

You don't have to. We offer regular guided walks in Church Stretton and surrounding areas.

  • Led by trained walk leaders.

  • In small groups.

  • Gentle walks - perfect if you are recovering from illness.

  • A great chance to meet people and make friends.

  • Different walks for different abilities.

  • A leader at the front and back so you'll never get left behind or be too slow.

When do the walks take place?

Is any special equipment needed?

A pair of comfortable shoes is recommended. Try to wear loose-fitting clothes in layers.

It’s also a good idea to bring a drink of water.

Is there anything else I should know?

You will be asked to complete a short health check questionnaire before your first walk with us. If you're unsure of your fitness to take part due to health reasons, just mention it next time you see your GP or Practice nurse.
