Volunteer spotlight – Claire

Our latest volunteer in the spotlight is Claire Parnell. You might recognise Claire from the Coffee Shop, where she is a regular friendly face, always ready with a hot drink and a warm welcome.

‘I started volunteering at the Mayfair when some of the other volunteering activities I had been involved with stopped because of Covid. I knew that the Mayfair was a great community hub for many things, having been to several events there in the past, and felt this was an ideal opportunity to get more involved on a regular basis.

‘Since Mayfair began to open up again, I have been in the Health and Wellbeing Centre on Thursdays helping in the café as a waitress. I thoroughly enjoy my morning and quickly got to know the Thursday regulars and exchange a few friendly words with them when they come in.

‘As well as being in the HWBC, I have helped with waitressing in the main Mayfair café and at some one-off events. This has meant that I have been able to work alongside different Mayfair staff and meet other volunteers. All in all, a very positive experience that I would recommend to others as a way of meeting people and being part of a team.’

If you would like to have a chat about volunteering, please give Kate Slater, our Volunteer Co-ordinator, a call on 01694 722077. At the present time, we’re especially keen to talk to anyone interested in cooking, baking, or waiting at table. Our Coffee Shop and Lunch Club are important hubs for the community, and we’re always looking for friendly and helpful volunteers to welcome people in with a smile.
